3 OL for Packers to target with David Bakhtiari going on the PUP list

The Packers are in need of some offensive line help with David Bakhtiari going on the PUP list and missing at least the first six weeks of the season.

Left tackle David Bakhtiari is a fan favorite for the Green Bay Packers and he’s in charge of protecting Aaron Rodgers at all costs. Unfortunately, though, Bakhtiari was placed on the PUP list on Tuesday.

What does this mean for the Packers? Well, Bakhtiari will be out for at least the first six weeks of the season. Because of this, general manager Brian Gutekunst would be wise to try and bring in some help for the depth. Here’s three linemen for the Packers to consider.

Demar Dotson would be a cheap fix for the Packers

Checking in at 6-foot-9, 315 pounds, offensive tackle Demar Dotson is an absolute force. He’s got incredible experience under his belt too, as he made his NFL debut back in 2009 with Tampa Bay. Last season he suited up for the Broncos, appearing in eight games. Dotson could arrive to the Packers on a cheap one-year deal and provide quality depth for the unit.

Russell Okung is also looking for a new home

A two-time Pro Bowler, what about offensive tackle Russell Okung? The 6-foot-5, 315-pounder also remains a free agent and is no stranger to great success in the trenches. Similar to Dotson, Okung could make his way to Green Bay on a cheap deal and just fill in until Bakhtiari is ready to return. You could do a lot worse than Okung, as he’s a force when it comes to blocking.

Former Chiefs standout Mitchell Schwartz is another option too

What about Mitchell Schwartz? The big knock on the former Kansas City Chiefs hoss is that he suffered a serious back injury last year which kept him out for the most of the year. There was hope he could return late in the postseason, but that didn’t happen. He’s waiting for a team to give him a call. He’d also probably love the shot to join a squad that has Super Bowl aspirations. We’ll see if Gutekunst makes something happen.
