Light heavyweight Azamat Murzakanov doesn’t want to wait long to make his UFC debut after a cinematic finish on DWCS.
Azamat Murzakanov didn’t take long to get the attention of UFC president Dana White, knocking Matheus Scheffel out cold in the first round in the 2021 premiere of Dana White’s Contender Series.
White has been talking about the need for more light heavyweight depth for years, and it looks like he has a solid prospect in Murzakanov. Entering his bout on DWCS, Murzakanov was one of the biggest stars fighting in Russia with successful stints in Brave CF and ACB.
Murzakanov feels fresh and ready to go ahead of his to-be-scheduled UFC debut and doesn’t want to wait long to prove he belongs on the biggest stage in the sport.
“One thing I know is I want to fight as fast as possible,” Murzakanov said during his post-fight press conference. “I’ve waited too long for this, and now I have to catch up for the time I’ve lost. As busy as the UFC can keep me, I’m ready.”
Azamat Murzakanov hopes to become the next Russian UFC star
Murzakanov could be potentially the next big star to come out of Russia, after former UFC champions Petr Yan and Khabib Nurmagomedov, along with rising lightweight contender Islam Makhachev have left their mark in the promotion. His boxing impressed White and the rest of the MMA community after he earned a contract with the UFC.
If his incredible power is any indication, he could be a must-watch for UFC fans going forward. Murzakanov will hope to have another dominant performance whenever his UFC debut eventually happens.
