The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will kick off the defence of their Super Bowl title on Thursday night when they open the 2021 NFL season schedule against the visiting Dallas Cowboys as strong 8-point favourites on the NFL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Led by Tom Brady, Tampa Bay marched to its first championship in two decades with a decisive 31-9 win over Kansas City in Super Bowl 55. However, the Buccaneers still trail the Chiefs on the Super Bowl odds entering Thursday’s matchup at Raymond James Stadium.

Listed as +650 second favourites on the Super Bowl odds, the Buccaneers have work to do to overcome a dismal track record against Dallas when they hit the gridiron on Thursday. The Buccaneers have lost outright in seven of their last eight meetings with the Cowboys. However, the defending champions have avoided losing against the spread in each of their past four dates with Dallas, according to the OddsShark NFL Database.

The Cowboys offence averaged fewer than 12 points per game while losing straight up and ATS in each of their four preseason contests. However, the Cowboys did finish the 2020 campaign on a high note, winning SU and ATS in three of their final four contests. Dallas should also get a big lift from the return of quarterback Dak Prescott, who is expected to return to action after missing most of last season due to a serious ankle injury.

Elsewhere, the Buffalo Bills open their schedule against the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers as 6.5-point chalk on Sunday afternoon, while the Chiefs host the Cleveland Browns as 6-point favourites at betting sites.

The Bills ended a long stretch of futility last season by winning the AFC East title, and followed up by marching to their first AFC Championship Game appearance since 1993. In addition to going unbeaten SU and ATS in three preseason contests, Buffalo also rides a seven-game SU win streak on home turf, and has knocked off the Steelers in each of their past two meetings. Pittsburgh opened last season with 11 straight victories, but closed out the campaign on a 1-5 SU run, and opens its schedule back at +4000 on the Super Bowl odds.

The Chiefs went 14-2 SU on the way to a second straight Super Bowl appearance last season, but face a stiff test against a Browns team that dominated in three straight August wins.

Elsewhere on the NFL Week 1 odds, the New England Patriots host the Miami Dolphins as 3-point chalk. As well, the Chicago Bears visit the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football as 7.5-point underdogs, and the Baltimore Ravens visit the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football as 4.5-point favourites.
