Canada’s Bianca Andreescu is off to a winning start at the 2021 U.S. Open, two years after winning her first major in New York.

The Mississauga, Ont., native defeated Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, in a match that lasted nearly three hours.

Andreescu, who is ranked No. 6 in the tournament, will next face American Lauren Davis in the second round.

With the win, all five Canadians competing in singles at the final major of the year — including Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, Vasek Pospisil and Leylah Fernandez — have advanced to the second round.
