IND vs ENG: Ravi Shastri tests COVID positive – Ind a big blow for Team India, Head Coach Ravi Shastri has tested positive for COVID-19 in a lateral flow test. He has been isolated along with bowling coach Bharat Arun, Fielding Coach R Sridhar, and Physiotherapist Nitin Patel as a precautionary measure.
All of them have received RT-PCR tests on Sunday morning and didn’t travel with the team to the Oval stadium.
On Monday, and his RT-PCR test report confirmed the infection.
“After testing positive in two lateral flow tests, Shastri has also returned a positive result in RT-PCR test. He has mild symptoms like sore throat. He will undergo 10 days of isolation,” a BCCI source informed PTI on condition of anonymity.
Shastri is likely to have got the symptoms after attending the launch of his book in the team hotel where outside guests were also allowed. Arun, Patel and Sridhar attended that function in person.
IND vs ENG: “The remaining members of the Team India contingent underwent two Lateral Flow Tests – one last night and another this morning. The members upon returning negative COVID reports were allowed to proceed for Day 4 of the ongoing fourth Test at The Oval,” the BCCI said in a statement.

IND vs ENG: However, all the members of the contingent have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Now, the BCCI’s medical staff are waiting for the RT-PCR result. Depending on the RT-PCR result, their isolation period could be extended.
“They have undergone RT-PCR testing and shall remain in the team hotel and not travel with Team India until confirmation from the medical team,” the statement said.
As per UK COVID-19 guidelines, if one returns a positive result in the RT-PCR test, the individual will have to stay in isolation for a minimum of 10 days while the close contacts will also be isolated for a similar period.
IND vs ENG: Have Team India broken any protocols?
- There is no bio-secure bubble in the UK.
- Instead, they are in a controlled environment and are allowed to go out only in designated places.
- Players and members can visit restaurants that only allow double-vaccinated customers.
- All the Team India members have done that so far.
IND vs ENG: Furthermore, all the members had undergone two lateral flow tests and were allowed to carry on after they returned negative results.
All the members of Team India are not in any bio-secure bubble in England. In addition, all of them had attended Ravi Shastri’s book launch party in London before the 4th Test began and could have contracted the virus there.
