Kanye West released his much-anticipated studio album “Donda’ this past Sunday. This project was Wests’ 10th studio album and paid homage to his late mother, Donda West. The album has taken over all streaming platforms. In just one day, Donda is the #1 album in 130 countries, breaking a record.

The album contains a total of 27 songs and has an hour and 49 minutes of total playtime. The album also contains an all-star list of features. Names like The Weeknd, Travis Scott, and Lil Baby all were a part of this album. ‘Donda’ also contained Kanye’s reunion with Jay-Z, which marked their first song together since their infamous collaborative album, Watch the Throne.

The album’s release was not smooth, however. The album, according to Kanye, was released without his approval. Jail, pt 2 featuring DaBaby was also unavailable at the time of release on Sunday at 8 am est, but it eventually became available.

Donda’s rollout was one that has never been seen before. It all started on July 19th when Justin Laboy tweeted that Kanye had played the album for himself and NBA superstar Kevin Durant.

A total of three listening parties followed this tweet, and all streamed on Apple Music before the album’s eventual release. The first two took place in Atlanta, where Kanye was born in Mercedes Benz Stadium on July 22nd and August 5th. The last happening at Soldier Field in Chicago, where Kanye grew up, on August 26th.

Donda marks the start of what seems to be a great end of the year for hip-hop fans. Drake, who took a shot at Kanye on his feature on Trippie Redd’s ‘Betrayal,’ is dropping his sixth studio album ‘Certified Lover Boy’ this Friday.

Travis Scott is also to release his fourth studio album ‘Utopia’ later this year. Additionally, Kendrick Lamar announced that he would be dropping his last album with Top Dawg Entertainment soon.

With so much music from some of the biggest stars in the hip-hop industry on the way, it’ll be interesting to see if Kanye West keeps this Apple Music record. However, for the time being, Kanye West is sitting on top of the rap game once again.

Even with a rollout that frustrated many fans, ‘Donda’ is another achievement in Kanye West’s legendary career.
