Declan Rice: All you need to know about Man Utd and Chelsea target

Declan Rice is yet to extend his deal at West Ham after Kurt Zouma became the club’s highest earner.

The defender moved across London from Chelsea in a £30m deal after struggling for game time at Stamford Bridge.

Zouma was looking to earn around £125,000-a-week, although he reportedly is pocketing less than that.

Nevertheless he remains West Ham’s highest earner – above Rice.

The Sun claims that Zouma’s salary ‘has not gone down particularly well with his new team-mates’.

The Hammers are prepared to make Rice their top earner but the midfielder has no desire to sign a new deal amid interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

David Moyes has created a strong team spirit at the London Stadium with the Hammers enjoying a promising year last term.

Despite possessing a host of impressive performers the club doesn’t have one outstanding individual, which has helped with group dynamics.

They have again started well and have the added bonus of European football, which could prove to their advantage as they try and keep hold of Rice.

Moyes has previously said that it would take a bid of £100m before they considered selling their star man.

“We’ve got some players that we value at £100million and we won’t be selling them,” he told talkSPORT.

“That’s the way it is, you’re not going to get rid of your better players, you don’t do it. And if you are then it’s going to be for huge money.

“So from that point of view I think the clubs are right to do so. But I think there are an awful lot of other clubs that are probably not able to pay that money and look to those levels.”

Moyes claims he had been tracking Zouma for a while before they eventually got the deal over the line with the player himself feeling wanted by West Ham.

He told their official website : “My conversation with the manager went very fast. I just felt like he really wanted me to come and join the team, especially a good team that’s started the season very, very well.

“With the great season that West Ham had last year, that gave the team a lot of confidence to improve this year – and I want to help the team do that.”

Moyes added: “He is a player we have tracked for some time, and we have taken great care and diligence to make the transfer happen.”
