Lance Lynn injury update isn't good news down the stretch

The Chicago White Sox will downplay Lance Lynn’s knee inflammation, but let’s not kid ourselves, no September injury is small.

Ideally, Lynn will be back in a week and his season will continue without a blip. That’s what the White Sox would like us to think, and there’s a very real chance this is all precautionary.

The move is retroactive to Aug. 29, so Lynn should be available in early September. Until then, the White Sox have a handy lead in the AL Central over the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers.

“It’s doing all right,” Lynn said, per ESPN. “Hopefully we can use this time here to catch up with it. The schedule works out where we can get back, if not ahead, at least somewhat even with it, where I can manage it start by start. It’s ahead of us on the treatment side. We’re going to catch back up.”

White Sox: Better now than never with Lance Lynn treatment

Like Lynn said, he’s hoping to get ahead of things with his treatment, especially while the White Sox have a cushion in the division. Assuming he can be ready by playoff time, he’ll undoubtedly headline Chicago’s postseason rotation.

But, of course, any injury this late in the season will be looked at under a microscope. Until Lynn goes back on the bump, fans have every right to be a little concerned.

Lynn is 10-4 with a 2.59 ERA on the year.
