It is also his seventh Grand Tour stage win in his career and his fifth stage win of 2021.

He previously won Stage 6 and Stage 12 after Team Education First-Nippo opted to focus on stage wins when general contender rider Hugh Carthy abandoned the race early on.

Neilsen beats other riders to the finish in split-second timing

Neilsen beat out Rui Oliveira and Quinn Simmons in the finishing sprint over the line.

The breakaway group had consisted of 24 riders initially but splintered and fell apart after attacks from Oliveira and Simmons.

Fellow teammate Lawson Craddock managed to stay with the small group and eventually lead out Neilsen in the final sprint for the stage win.

The peloton tried to catch up to the breakaway and what was left of it but the entire group crossed the line 18 seconds ahead of them.
