Zach Randolph and Tony Allen will have their jerseys retired by the Memphis Grizzlies this upcoming season. Randolph will have his day on December 11th, a night where the team will host the Houston Rockets.

Allen will have his jersey ceremony on January 28th, where the Grizzlies will play against the Utah Jazz.

Though not one of the greatest NBA duo’s in recent memory, both carry much favor inside the Grizzlies organization. In their time, they came to define Memphis’ style of play. Mike Conley and Marc Gasol gave the team an identity that distinguished Memphis from the rest of the league.

The “Grit ‘n Grind” era marked the greatest stretch of Grizzlies basketball in franchise history. This milestone is marked by their seven-year playoff streak between 2011 and 2017, including the team’s only Conference finals appearance in 2013.

Zach Randolph & Tony Allen

Known for his tenacity and skill, Zach Randolph hustled and thrived his way into an excellent NBA career. By his third season in the league, he ascended to stardom on the Portland Trailblazers. Following brief stints in New York and Los Angeles, Randolph made his way to the Grizzlies, where he enjoyed the peak of his career.

As marked by his all-star appearances in 2010 and 2013, Zach Randolph found a home in Memphis. He averaged 16.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in his eight seasons in 551 games played.

Tony Allen followed a different track en route to Memphis. Taken 25th overall in the 2004 NBA draft, Allen started on a middling Celtics team. He stuck with the team through their championship victory in 2008 and another finals appearance in 2010. He then signed with the Grizzlies that offseason.

In the seven seasons he played there; Tony Allen earned six All-NBA defensive team selections. While they may not dwell in the hall-of-fame, Zach Randolph and Tony Allen will always be legends with Memphis Grizzlies.
