MMA Twitter is swooning over Laura Sanko on DWCS commentary

Laura Sanko became the first female color commentator of the Zuffa era.

Long-time UFC correspondent and backstage interviewer, Laura Sanko, finally got her long-awaited opportunity to become the first female color commentator in Zuffa history. Alongside Dan Dan Heilie and Paul Felder, Sanko seemed to fit right in with the commentary team during the first episode of Dana White’s Contender Series season 5.

Sanko has been a staple on UFC broadcasts for a number of years, adding a wealth of diversity and knowledge to the events with a good mix of first-hand MMA experienced mixed in. However, this isn’t the first time the UFC has seen a female commentator appear in the broadcast position. Kathy Long, a former Olympic medalist, appeared on UFC 1 before being removed shortly after the event’s airing.

The sport has come a long way since 1993, and the addition of Sanko as a color commentator just shows how the sport continues to consistently evolve.

Sanko was showered with love from the MMA Twitter, as she should be.
