One tweet from Nate Diaz in reply to a recent Conor McGregor comment led to back-and-forth barbs on social media
Will any of these feuds between Conor McGregor and his old rivals ever end? Highly doubt it.
Nate Diaz went on a massive Twitter rant on Aug. 31, starting by posting a picture of a recent quote from McGregor and asking why he’s trash-talking when he can’t fight. McGregor is still healing from his injury in the trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.
Diaz also posted a photo of Poirier being choked out by Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242 and made another post that seemingly implies that he’s interested in a fight with Vicente Luque, who called Diaz out after submitting Michael Chiesa at UFC 265.
Nate Diaz, Conor McGregor get into a spat on social media as this feud will never seem to end
Then, McGregor replied and the back-and-forth between the two started, with Diaz implying that McGregor and Poirier are both afraid of him — and that McGregor is not the fighter he once was.
Diaz and McGregor’s rivalry stretches back to 2016 when Diaz filled in on less than two weeks’ notice to take on McGregor in the main event of UFC 196. Diaz became the first UFC fighter to finish McGregor at the event when he submitted the then-featherweight champ in the second round.
The two rematched at UFC 202 in a highly intense bout that McGregor won by majority decision. UFC 202 broke a seven-year record for most-bought UFC pay-per-view until it was broken two years later by UFC 229.
Some in the MMA sphere have suggested that with both coming off losses, McGregor and Diaz could have their trilogy bout for their next bouts.
