Following the Baltimore Ravens comeback victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football, Jackson Mahomes, brother of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, poured water on a Ravens fan. The clip, filmed by the fans who Mahomes emptied the water on, surfaced across social media shortly after the game.

The incident prompted mixed reactions from countless people, including the mayor of Kansas City and Jackson’s brother, Patrick. Days after the incident, Mahomes spoke on the subject in an interview with the Kansas City Star.

While not excusing the outburst, he gave some background information for what started it. Naturally, the short 15-second video left out important context.

“Yeah, I mean, obviously it’s something that we don’t want to necessarily do. There was things said to him, and Brittany, that you don’t see kind of on the clip. But, I mean he’s been good at it, at not trying to respond to that stuff.”Patrick Mahomes

Mahomes also mentioned how this incident could serve as a way for his brother to avoid similar encounters in the future.

“He takes a lot and he’s usually pretty good at it, and he’ll learn from it and just try to stay away from those people as best he can.”Patrick Mahomes

Publicity before the incident

Both of the Mahomes brothers have been in the news for quite some time. Since the Chiefs drafted him 10th overall in 2017, Patrick already has an NFL MVP and Super Bowl ring under his belt. Barring injury, he projects to go down as one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.

Similarly, Jackson Mahomes has previously gained notoriety. With a massive social media presence, he’s accumulated 976,000 TikTok followers and 255,000 Instagram followers as a verified creator on both platforms.

The brothers will likely want to put this occurrence behind the Chiefs taking on the Chargers in week three.
