White Sox place SS All-Star Tim Anderson on injured list

The Chicago White Sox will be without All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson for the start of September.

Odds are they won’t miss him much as it pertains to their pursuit of a division title.

Jesse Rogers explained for ESPN on Wednesday that Anderson has been added to the 10-day injured list retroactive to this past Sunday because of a left hamstring strain. In a corresponding roster move, outfielder Billy Hamilton was reinstated from the IL following his rehab assignment as he worked to recover from an oblique strain.

Anderson hits the IL slashing .302/.331/.458 with 14 home runs, 53 RBI, 26 doubles, and 17 stolen bases across 108 games this season. Per ESPN stats, he last played on Saturday.

In other moves, Chicago recalled right-handed relief pitcher Matt Foster and utility man Gavin Sheets from Triple-A Charlotte. Infielder Jake Lamb was designated for assignment, and infield prospect Romy Gonzalez had his contract selected from Triple-A Charlotte.

The White Sox began Wednesday at 77-56 and in first place in the American League Central standings, 10 games up on the second-place Cleveland Indians.
