ngland supremo Eddie Jones has announced the addition of two high-profile figures to his coaching team, with Richard Cockerill and Anthony Seibold joining ahead of the Autumn Internationals.

One of the hallmarks of Jones’ six years in charge of England – which has seen them reach the World Cup Final and win three Six Nations titles – has been the regular turnover of coaching staff. This summer John Mitchell, Simon Amor and Jason Ryles became the latest to leave the set-up.

Jones had already brought in Wasps’ Martin Gleeson as attack coach, and has now added Cockerill as a supplementary forwards coach with Matt Proudfoot, and Seibold to coach the defence. Cockerill is a familiar figure to fans of English rugby.

A combative hooker for Leicester who won 27 England caps, he went to become a Premiership-winning coach with the Tigers. He has also coached Edinburgh and worked at Toulon.

Australian Seibold’s background is in rugby league as a player and coach, most notably with South Sydney Rabbitohs.

“We’re two years from the World Cup so we wanted to freshen up our coaching team and get the right people in place for where we want to go – which is to win the World Cup,” said Jones.

“We’ve added Richard to the team to work with Matt to create a dominant forward pack. He’s a former England player, has great coaching experience and comes in as a well-rounded, mature, driven English coach.

“Anthony is a coach that I have had a relationship with since 2019 and have followed his career closely. He is a good coach and thinks deeply about the game. John Mitchell did a great job improving us in defence and Anthony will add further nuances to the good system that he has put into place.”

England will have a camp at the Lensbury in Teddington in the final week of this month, and another in Jersey in late October. Their November fixtures are against Tonga, South Africa and Australia.
