Hokies end UNF Invitational with win over Davidson


JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team ended its time in Florida with a win over Davidson in five sets. The Hokies finish the UNF Invitational 2-1 and sit at 5-1 overall.
The Hokies jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 25-15. Freshman Kellen Morin made her first collegiate start at Tech and posted a team-high four kills on four attempts in the first set. Angel Robinson also had a hand in two blocks to help the Hokies out.
The second and third set were all Davidson as the Wildcats posted a 25-23 win in the second and a 25-18 win in the third. The Wildcats notched a .383 attack percentage in the third set with 21 kills, a match-high. Leading the way for Davidson was Isabel Decker with six kills, followed by Isabella Perry with five.
Virginia Tech shifted the momentum in the fourth set, forcing a set five with a 25-19 win. Robinson and Griere Hughes were solid for the Hokies, both hitting .500 in the fourth set. Brie Postema added 17 assists and Logan Mosley posted 11 digs.
The fifth set went down to the wire as the Hokies pulled out the 17-15 win. Davidson had a 9-5 lead before Virginia Tech called a timeout and came back to even the set at 11-11. From there, the two teams traded points until a kill from Postema ended the match in the Hokies favor.
Robinson and Marisa Cerchio ended the match with 15 kills apiece and Cerchio added a solo block and seven block assists. Mosley ended her weekend with 34 digs and Postema finished with 29 total assists.
The Hokies return to action next week at the Chattanooga Classic where they will take on Chattanooga, Troy and Tennessee Tech.
