Ryan Fitzpatrick leaves Week 1 after huge hit (Video)

Ryan Fitzpatrick exits game vs. Los Angeles Chargers after suffering an injury on a big hit.

In the first half of his first game leading the Washington Football Team, veteran journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick suffered an injury on a big hit vs. the Los Angeles Chargers.

Taylor Heinicke came in to replace the injured Fitzpatrick the following play. Though Heinicke played for Washington last year under head coach Ron Rivera, the team could be in trouble if Fitzpatrick’s injury is of the serious variety. Washington has an excellent defensive roster, but was held back by bad quarterback play a season ago. Fitzpatrick was brought in to help elevate that.

Here is the play that knocked Fitzpatrick out of the game vs. the Chargers in the first half Sunday.

Ryan Fitzpatrick injury update: Washington QB exits game with an injury

Despite being limited to some degree offensively, Washington did win the NFC East in Rivera’s first year on the job. Although they did so with a sub-.500 record, there is reason to believe Washington could repeat in the division, as the Dallas Cowboys typically disappoint, the New York Giants are still rebuilding and the Philadelphia Eagles have a first-year head coach this season.

If Fitzpatrick misses time for Washington, it will be challenging for them to contend this season.
