Transfer Deadline Day LIVE! Tomiyasu to Arsenal; Kounde to Chelsea; Ronaldo return; Man Utd, Spurs rumours

After more than two-and-a-half months, an explosive transfer window that was originally predicted to be one of the slowest on record owing to the effects of the Covid pandemic is drawing to a close.

Clubs in England have until 11pm BST tonight to get those last-day deals over the line, after which they have to wait until January for a chance to strengthen their respective squads once again.

Manchester United are also on the trail of Ronaldo’s Portuguese team-mate Ruben Neves amid more links to Declan Rice, with Renato Sanches in talks to join Wolves on loan, Dan James heading to Leeds and Leicester going for Ademola Lookman.

Arsenal have now agreed a deal with Bologna for ex-Spurs defensive target Takehiro Tomiyasu, meanwhile.

And will Liverpool strengthen any further before the deadline? Captain Jordan Henderson has signed a new contract at Anfield already today.

Saul a no-go for Chelsea; Kounde update

However, it doesn’t look like good news on the Saul Niguez to Chelsea front.

Multiple outlets are now reporting that Atletico Madrid have blocked the deal.

Meanwhile, Sevilla’s sporting director Monchi has just said this about Jules Kounde…

“Kounde can leave before midnight if anybody pays his clause, then we can do nothing,” he said.

“He has the same chance to leave as all his team-mates.”

Tomiyasu to Arsenal ‘here we go’

Takehiro Tomiyasu to Arsenal now has the coveted ‘here we go’ treatment from Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist says a deal worth €20m (£16m) plus a further €3m in add-ons is in place with Bologna.

Tomiyasu has now agreed personal terms and will undergo a medical this afternoon ahead of an official announcement later on.

Zouma takes no4 shirt at West Ham

West Ham are working to add further to David Moyes’s squad today but have just confirmed some more news about one man already in the door.

Kurt Zouma, signed from Chelsea for £29.8m last week, will wear the No4 shirt in east London.

Crystal Palace to clinch Edouard deal

Crystal Palace are finalising a move for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.

After a big-spending summer, new Eagles manager Patrick Vieira has been keen to complete his overhaul with the addition of a striker and French forward Edouard is set to complete his move in a deal worth up to £20m.

Vieira has Christian Benteke, Jordan Ayew and Jean-Philippe Mateta on his books but none of his strikers have managed to score a goal so far this season.

Edouard, 23, will join Marc Guehi, Joachim Andersen, Conor Gallagher, Michael Olise and Will Hughes on the list of incomings at Selhurst Park this summer.

“My first domestic League, my first Cup, my first call to the Portuguese National team, my first Champions League, my first Golden Boot and my first Ballon d’Or, they were all born from this special connection between me and the Red Devils. History has been written in the past and history will be written once again! You have my word!

“I’m right here! I’m back where I belong! Let’s make it happen once again!

“PS – Sir Alex, this one is for you…”

West Ham eye late Alex Kral deal

West Ham are pushing for one more signing before the close of the window as David Moyes looks to add Czech Republic international Alex Kral to his squad.

The midfielder, who plays for Spartak Moscow, has been a target since the start of the summer and the Hammers are working to bring him in on an initial loan with an option to buy.

Kral’s arrival could see youngster Conor Coventry join Championship Peterborough on loan.

Tomiyasu to Arsenal dependent on exits

Here’s the latest from Standard Sport’s Simon Collings on Arsenal pushing to land Takehiro Tomiyasu before the deadline…

Arsenal are working on a deal for Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu on transfer deadline day.

The Gunners want to sign a right-back before the summer window shuts at 11pm BST on Tuesday night and they have identified the versatile 22-year-old as a prime target.

Tomiyasu is viewed as someone who could operate at right-back or in the heart of defence, while his age profile suits Arsenal’s forward planning.

Tottenham were quoted £20million for the Japanese international earlier this summer before going on to sign Cristian Romero from Atalanta and pursuing Barcelona full-back Emerson Royal.

A move for Tomiyasu is expected to be contingent on outgoings at Arsenal, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Hector Bellerin both trying to leave.

Chelsea deals for Kounde and Saul in the balance

Chelsea are prepared to take their deadline-day business down to the wire, writes James Robson.

Moves for Jules Kounde and Saul Niguez were left hanging in the balance this morning as Thomas Tuchel remains determined to make late additions to his Champions League-winning squad.

Kounde wants to complete a move to Stamford Bridge, but his hopes of a switch have stalled over Sevilla’s refusal to budge from their £60million asking price.

Tuchel has tracked the France centre-back all summer, with Kurt Zouma’s move to West Ham over the weekend expected to pave the way for his arrival.

But as of this morning Sevilla were adamant the 22-year-old would not be allowed to leave unless their valuation was met in full.

Arsenal in talks over Tomiyasu

Arsenal are trying to sign Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu on deadline day, reports suggest.

According to The Athletic, talks have begun over a deal for the Japanese international centre-back who was pursued by Tottenham earlier this summer.

Southampton and Aston Villa have also previously tried to sign Tomiyasu, while David Moyes also had a look for West Ham.

A deal to take the 22-year-old to the Emirates depends on Arsenal being able to trim their squad further, so could well go down to the wire…

Ndombele set for Tottenham stay

Here’s the latest from Standard Sport’s chief football correspondent Dan Kilpatrick on the future of Tottenham’s record signing Tanguy Ndombele, who has yet to feature for the club this season…

I understand Ndombele is now expected to stay at Spurs.

The club has not received any acceptable offers so the expectation will be for Nuno Espirito Santo to get him going, just as Jose Mourinho did.
