UConn Falls to St. Johns in BIG EAST Opener


STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women’s soccer team (4-4-0) fell to St. John’s (5-2-1), 3-0, in the BIG EAST Conference opener Thursday evening at Morrone Stadium.

The Huskies pressed early in the game on the offensive end. When the Red Storm began to get the ball on the other end, Kaitlyn Mahoney came up big with five saves, including four in under 10 minutes.

The Red Storm notched their first goal at 42:43 off a corner kick set piece. Just under a minute after halftime, St. John’s scored again off a close range shot. The team scored the third goal at 54:42.

Jaydah Bedoya led UConn with five shots while Duda Santin had three.

UConn led in shots, 14-11, but St. John’s led in shots on goal, 9-2.

UConn is on the road for its next two games. The Huskies travel to Seton Hall next Thursday, Sept. 30 before going on to Butler on Sunday, Oct. 3.
