US Open 2021 LIVE, Day 6: World No.1 Novak Djokovic, Ash Barty and Alexander Zverev to play round 3 matches

After a major upset that saw the ousting of defending champion Naomi Osaka and Stefanos Tsitsipas on Friday, the US Open Day 6 will feature some of the biggest name in the world of Tennis. World No. 1 men’s and women’s singles players Novak Djokovic and Ash Barty will in action for second round matches. The duo are favourite to advance in next round. Djokovic, in particular, is aiming for his calendar grand slam. His 21st Grand Slam will also take him past legends Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Meanwhile, Zverev is aiming for his maiden Grand Slam title after clinching Gold at Tokyo Olympics. He and Barty also won the warmup event of US Open- Cincinnati Masters as they look to win their maiden US Open titles.

Ash Barty vs Shelby Rogers

World No.1 Tennis player Ash Barty will square off against Shelby Rogers of the USA in US Open 2021 on Saturday. The latter is coming on the back of straight wins against Barty. The 28-year-old had last played in the quarterfinals of US Open 2021. Rogers has won six singles titles and one doubles title in ITF Circuit.  She had emerged victorious in 13 out of the last 22 matches.

On the other hand, Barty is eyeing her maiden US Open title. Her tournament-best is playing in round 4 twice (2018, 2019). The 25-year-old has lost just 2/21 matches in tennis events. She is yet to lose a single match in her last 5 matches. Overall, the Australian has registered 42 wins in 48 matches, including Wimbledon 2021 and recently-concluded crown at Cincinnati Masters.

Novak Djokovic vs Kei Nishikori

Defending champion Novak Djokovic will face off Kei Nishikori in the 3rd round of the US Open 2021 on Saturday. He is coming on the back of wins against Tallon Griekspoor and Holger Rune. The Japanese is expected to hive a good fight owing to his calibre in top-flight events. Nishikori had made it to the finals of the 2014 season. The 56-ranked player has managed just three wins in the last 5 matches. He has a win-loss ratio of 13:8 on 2021 hardcourt events.

Djokovic, on the other hand, is in the quest for his maiden Calendar Slam title. He could become the first player to achieve the feat in the 21st century. 21st Grand Slam will also take him past legends Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The 34-year-old has not faced a loss in 2021 hardcourt events. In fact, he has lost only 3 out of his 39 matches this year.

Alexander Zverev vs Jack Sock

Olympic gold medallist Alexander Zverev will be aiming to seal progression into round four when he takes on USA’s Jack Sock. The duo will clash at the Arthur Ashe Stadium at 5:45 AM IST on Sunday, September 5. While Zverev will be aiming to put a spanner in Novak Djokovic’s title bid yet again, Sock will be aiming for a shock win in front of a home crowd.

Alexander Zverev has had a good start to his US Open 2021 campaign, with wins over Sam Querry and Albert Ramos-Vinolas in straight sets.  The World No.4 is on a 13-game win streak and has been in fine form with back to back title wins at the Tokyo Olympics and Cincinnati. Zverev had made it to the US Open final last year, and will be aiming to lift it this time around.
