Zach Ertz: Relationship with Eagles is ‘mended’

Zach Ertz: Relationship with Eagles is 'mended'

After an offseason full of trade rumors, Zach Ertz says his relationship with the Philadelphia Eagles is “mended,” according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Ertz ended the 2021 season with an uncertain future in Philly. The two sides couldn’t agree on a new contract, and Ertz reportedly drew trade interest throughout the offseason.

NFL Network’s Michael Silver reported in March 2020 that three-time Pro Bowler turned down an extension from the Eagles that was worth more than the four-year, $42 million deal Austin Hooper signed with the Cleveland Browns.

According to The Athletic’s Zach Berman, Ertz wouldn’t elaborate on whether he felt the franchise treated him honestly.

Ertz has spent his entire eight-year career with the Eagles. He was consistently one of the team’s best receivers, recording more than 700 receiving yards in each season from 2014-19. Last season, though, the 30-year-old was limited to 11 games and caught just 36 passes for a career-low 335 yards and one touchdown.

The Stanford product is entering the final year of his contract and is set to earn $8.5 million in base salary. Dallas Goedert has turned into one of Philly’s go-to options, so the Eagles could move on from Ertz after the 2021 campaign.
